“Frequently we do not leave the past behind. We clasp on to it. We dissect it, and let fears for the future, tempered by the past, unconsciously prevent us from taking up the task eternal.”
Ray Simpson on Celtic Spirituality
These are poignant words to reflect on in this season of remembrance. It takes real courage sometimes to leave the past behind and to move on. Often we find that courage through the love, prayers and gentle counsel in the company of others. That company may often be the simple fact of their presence in which words seem superfluous.
Thankfully now my back is a little better I am delighted that we can have a Rector’s Ramble through the autumnal beauty of Stansted Forest. We won’t walk miles but will take our time to stop and stare, to breath the autumn air and feel ourselves moving on, healed and restored.
Come as you are meeting at the Rectory for 12.30pm. I feel a pot of tea and a slice of cake may also be in order….
Recent days have reminded us of the bond we share with our Jewish brothers and sisters and in remembrance of the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting I offer these words from the wisdom of the Jewish faith…….
“Faith is not the clinging to a shrine but an endless pilgrimage of the heart”.
Almighty and eternal God, you have kindled the flame of love in the hearts of the saints: grant to us the same faith and power of love, that, as we rejoice in their triumphs we may be sustained by their example and fellowship; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
We continue to pray for:
Clemmie, Michael Palmer, Charlotte Megenney, Guy Solan, and Sylvia Stear
And those who have recently died and their loved ones:
Peter McDonald, Hilda Finnamore, Murray Fox and Beryl Cleaver
We pray for Peter and Christine Barnett for the blessing of their marriage in the St James Centre on Saturday.
If you know of anyone who needs our prayers or would appreciate a visit, please let the Rector or the Parish Administrator know.
Should you wish to contact the Rector his mobile number is 07538 011579.
