Prayer & Preaching 28th July

God and Mrs God holidaying in Scarborough…………..

Holidays can be good times for those seemingly idle thoughts but which actually might be more profound than we realise.  As you sit on your boat or in your deckchair you may wish to reflect on the following:

“If God is God then God is always more than we can say God is”

On that basis I hope you won’t find it flippant if I suggest that God is a Yorkshireman and in August takes Mrs God and a couple of deckchairs for some much needed RnR on the Yorkshire Riviera.

Rest and recreation – it’s all part of God’s plan.  I do hope you will be able to have a bit of time to stop and stare, entertain idle thoughts and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Jane and I are off in Bertie the Motorhome for a Scandavian Odessy but other members of the Ministry Team are generously holding the fort.  However, over the coming few weeks of summer holidays if things can wait then it would give us all a little more time and space – and of course that includes that very busy place the Parish Office.

St Augustine, whose own holiday destinations are not recorded, clearly appreciated RnR when he wrote “our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee”.

Collect
Merciful God, whose holy apostle Saint James, leaving his father and all that he had, was obedient to the calling of your Son Jesus Christ and followed him even to death; help us, forsaking the false attractions of the world, to be ready at all times to answer your call without delay; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen

We continue to pray for:
Clemmie, Michael Palmer, Ellen Chapman, Kris Tippen and Debbie

And those who have recently died and their loved ones:
Jacqueline Wetter and Joan Deverell

If you know of anyone who needs our prayers or would appreciate a visit, please let the Rector or the Parish Administrator know.

Should you wish to contact the Rector his mobile number is 07538 011579.
