Honouring the Harvest….?
We are SO blessed. God has indeed given us more than we could ever need or ask for….
Maybe that’s why average UK households waste 7.3 million tonnes of food a year?!?
This equates to £13bn being thrown away in edible food from homes each year, or £470 per household. Of the food thrown away, 4.4 million tonnes was “avoidable” waste that was edible at some point before it was put in the bin or food waste caddy, such as bread that goes mouldy, compared to 4.2 million tonnes in 2012.
This Sunday’s Harvest Celebrations are much more a trip down church memory lane to the tune ‘We plough the fields and scatter’… It’s a God given opportunity to rejoice, reflect and recommit to our call to be the best ‘caretakers’ we can be of all that God has blessed us with. It’s also a time to take a look at how together we can share the blessings of being the Church ‘Christ’s body’ for those we are called to serve.
Over the last few weeks we have all reflected on what it may mean to connect with the ‘heart of faith’. Maybe some of us have begun to realise that with have more heart than we appreciated. Our hearts truly have been touched….
Is it time to harvest those hearts and not let them go to waste….?
Creator God, you made the goodness of the land, the riches of the sea and the rhythm of the seasons; as we thank you for the harvest, may we cherish and respect this planet and its peoples, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
We continue to pray for:
