It’s Sunday, it must be a Saint’s Day!
July and August seem to be awash with Saints days, and Feasts and Festivals! St Thomas, St Benedict, Mary Magdalene, St James, The Blessed Virgin Mary, St Bartholomew, to name but a few.
But why do we celebrate people who, for the most part, were just like us? BECAUSE they were just like us! The great quote from Oscar Wilde sums up our fascination with the people who have gone before, because it offers us hope.
Every Saint has a past – every Saint was human, they had bad days just as we do, but their faith and hope was always in the loving, redemptive, passion of Jesus, which inspired and drove them on to be ordinary people who did extra-ordinary things!
Every Sinner has a future – every Sinner is human, we will have good days just as the saints did, and if we put our faith and hope in the loving, redemptive, passion of Jesus, it will, if we let it, inspire and drive us on to be ordinary people who do extra-ordinary things!
Almighty God, who looked upon the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary and chose her to be the mother of your only Son; grant that we who are redeemed by his blood may share with her in the flory of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
We continue to pray for:
Clemmie, Michael Palmer, Ellen Chapman, Kris Tippen, Debbie, Robert Bowen-Colthurst, Celia Worraker and Gerard.
And those who have recently died and their loved ones:
John Guard and Iona
