Some of us have grown very fond of this picture. Like all art it speaks on many levels and to some not at all…
Christ’s crad’ling of the scorpion (the litt’ler the nastier…) resonates powerfully with a phrase we pray as part of the Lent Preface in the eucharistic prayer:
‘…you open our eyes to your presence in the world
and free our hands to welcome others
into the radiant splendour of your love.’
Here too is that renewal at the heart of this season of Lent ‘springtime for the soul’. May our Lenten discipline lead us to discover anew God’s generous heart of love for us and in us…
Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness, and was tempted as we are, yet without sin: give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit; and, as you know our weakness, so may we know your power to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
We continue to pray for:
Clemmie, Michael Palmer, Guy Solan, Ellen Chapman, Kris Tippen, Catherine O’Brien, Jax Lemon and Laura-Sue Moss.
And those who have recently died and their loved ones:
Donald James and Alan Clatworthy.
We pray for Minnie Rolls and Sean Duffy for their wedding on Saturday 9th March at West Wittering.
If you know of anyone who needs our prayers or would appreciate a visit, please let the Rector or the Parish Administrator know.
Should you wish to contact the Rector his mobile number is 07538 011579.
