On Thursday our West Wittering school and church harvest gifts were collected by volunteers and taken straight to Chichester Food Bank warehouse for distribution.  They said we had done “remarkably well” but this encouraging message was tempered by the fact that overall this harvest the number of gifts has fallen while the demand has increased.  They produced 1500 lunch boxes for children to cover them over the school summer holidays when there were no school meals.  At the end of the summer the Food Bank warehouse was completely empty and they had to buy food to meet the demand.  One volunteer said that he’s sometimes almost in tears at the situation some people are in.  So well done everyone for being part of this great community team effort.  Even the van used to collect our gifts had been lent by Panther Truck Rental for free!
