As you know, I
have been working with a team of Christian leaders to try and work out how we
can help those who are homeless or rough sleeping in Chichester, not just over
the winter months but every month, indeed every day. I know you have been
frustrated at the slow pace of what we have been doing, but I hope you trust
that we have been trying as hard as we can to try and pin down exactly how best
we can serve the homeless, without replicating services or worse competing with
other agencies. But with winter approaching once again we are determined that
we should be doing more and we now need your help to enable us to do three
|1. To ensure that a hot meal is served by the churches in Chichester every day during the winter months for the homeless community.
2. To build a team of people who can befriend and support people who find themselves homeless, helping them to take positive steps forward.
3. To offer some very limited overnight accommodation for homeless people that we know well during the cold months.
Plans are already
underway for all this. We already have an experienced volunteer who is doing
some outreach work on the streets on behalf of the church. But we now need more
volunteers and we need to ensure they are trained and ready for the winter. We
will be explaining our plans and hopefully recruiting volunteers at a meeting
on the 17th of October at
7.30pm at St Pancras Church.
If you want to
help, or just want to find out more, come along on the 17th, or if
you can’t, send me your email address (headed Homeless volunteer) and I will
end you all the information after the meeting. This isn’t a commitment to help,
but it is a commitment to care.
